timing

Post by Wilson101 »

whenever i try to set the timing on the z at 800 rpms 20*almost seems to be maxed out in the clockwise direction. i dont remember it being this way on the stock ecu. what are some of the things that could cause this.

The ECU doesn't doesn't have any effect on the base timing. You set your timing to 20 degrees because that is what the ECU expects and bases its timing map on that setting. If you are using an ECU from a year other than your car, the base setting may be different than the stock setting. I.E. 15 degrees rather than 20 degrees. If you are maxed out on your adjustment then it is due to something you have done. Have you removed your distributor lately? It may be off by a tooth. Try resetting it.

my thought, would be distributor out a tooth, put the motor on #1 top dead centre compression stroke and make sure rotor is facing straight at Number 1 on the dizzy cap.

unusual if you didn't change anything but, just ecu change.

make sure engine is warm/operating temp as well.
