Add your Dyno results!

Post by Matt »

Hey guys

If you have any graphs that you want on the site, let us know

Pete just got some pics at Morpowa tonight with a S14 RB25DET getting 308rwkw using an RB20DET ECU :D

I have plenty but i have to dig up all the dyno graphs.

S14 SR20det 323rwkw
Arias Pistons
Scat Rods
Metal Head Gasket
Tomei Springs
Solid Pivots
Rocker-Arm Stoppers
HKS Cams 272in 264ex
Trust TD06
700cc injectors
Z32 MAF blow through
Nistune S14 board tuned by The SpeedLab

This was tuned a year ago. About 2 weeks ago the same car was run again and made 315rwkw on 23psi. Reliable and consistent tune with Nistune.

RB20det 373rwkw
Std Pistons and Rods
Std Camshafts
ACL rings and bearings
Metal head gasket
GTR inlet plenum
T04z Approx 33psi
850cc injectors
Nistune R32 board tuned by The SpeedLab

This was a workshop experimental project to see how much power could be made with a standard rb20det. Personally i was surprised that the standard pistons could handle more than 500hp. Somehow the engine is still running and shows no signs of blow-by or failure. However it was only ever run on the dyno at a fast ramp rate. I am sure if it was loaded up hard on the road it would fail eventually.

Some special cam timing and other little tricks were used...
No problems controlling this with a standard ecu.
Is there a more powerful standard internal rb20 out there?

My god thats a beautiful boost line, what do you use?

Makes my rb20 at 220 rwkw look weak.

It wasn't really that flat. The dyno pressure sensor was maxed out.

would be nice to see inlet air temp readings same as ambient. i.e sensor left hanging on machine.

but that has to be one of the most powerful rb20det ever.

i put a post on sau previously because these engine have always dissapointed me, never seen one crack 300rwkw in person.

a few people posted around 300rwkw in aust, stock engines, which was borderline on my initial question.

no real results from jap land.

but even if that power dropped a little due to air temp position it would still be very impressive.

still not sure how much the rb20 made back in group a racing days with race fuel exactly.

Yeah true but i think that a 10 deg temp difference is about 1% correction on the dyno dynamics. Off the top of my head that is, but i should check to make sure. You can notice that it was also done at a fast ramp rate which helps a bit as well.
Here are various runs using different cam timing etc. They are all over 300rwkw. Also the ambient and inlet air temp is the same.

Thanks for the kind words, the only thing i have seen close to this power have been 2.2 or 2.4 stroked. It really isn't anything ground breaking, more a case of just forcing a lot of boost through it with a big turbo and the cam timing setup for high rpm power. I think it is just that most people don't want to spend the money required to get the most out of an rb20 when a 25 or 26 will do the job so much better, and rightly so.

The head is one of the main restrictions. Small valves and very small inlet ports, relative to rb25 and rb26. If you ported the hell out of the head and put some big cams in it would be better.

Then it is a matter of big revs and big boost to get the best out of the rb20, due to its short stroke and small valves. You can see on the dyno sheet that the power was yet to fall, but the revs were already at 8500 on a standard bottom end.

To be honest i don't think there is any point pushing an rb20 much past 250rwkw or it becomes very laggy. The equivalent setup on an sr20 always outperforms the rb20 in response and torque.

I think i remember reading somewhere that they were around 400hp. Not sure if that was at the crank or the wheels.
