748 whp on nistune. do i get a cookie?

Post by that guy »

Made 748 on Nistune 55.6 psi boost pressure. went lean on this pull, because the position where i had the aem true boost solenoid was over heating and producing inconsistant boost levels. All my passes were done in 3rd gear on 26x10x15 mickey thompson et drag slicks.
As you can see it wnet very lean. This was due to the unexpected boost level i was'nt planning on doing 50psi on this pull, more like 30-35. So i hit the end of the load map. i did i belive maybe 10-12 dyno pulls. don't plan on going back any time soon, gonna figure out how to make the power do somthing at the track this weekend. making power is one thing but translating it in to somthing usable is where real setup and tuning is involved. This being said i by no means call my self a tuner im a nissan tech by trade. Thank you!

yeah,
These little RB's are tonka tough.

Did this last year on the dyno

Did your motor have a melt down when it leaned out?
My first one did when the MAF crapped out @ 44psi at just .93 Lambda (jumped from .77 straight up before the dyno shut it down from high exaust temps and the list of head components in the turbo housing).

What did your total timing at 8000rpm end up being?

my motor is perfect. Did one more dyno pull after to make like 633 at like 45 or 47 lbs. overall timming 18 degrees. I went to the track on august 19. trying to translate power into useable performance. My motor is stock other than pistons and rods. And some springs and retainers. Log manifold airflow meter. did you make those numbers on Nistune? And thats the low horsepower number, the corrected it actually made like 760 somthing. with Drag slicks on and in third gear. i have pics in type 3&4 section of this site. Just waiting for matt to sponsor a nistuned drag car.

Did you have any issues running those tyres on the rollers? Soft rubber usually goes soft and gooey and then it's all over for traction...

I spent about half an hour cleaning up that horrible black goo last time they let a car on the rollers with drag slicks on it!

not wrong, gets ugly too,
Most guys get a set of 4wd tyres for the dyno and they still get stripped.

I can't believe how sticky that rubber gets. This car spat it all over itself, the rollers and the back of the dyno bay. And it was like black evil blu-tak. Best you can do is squirt it with water and it hardens up a bit. Don't try to dissolve it with thinners/fuel/brake-kleen whatever you do. Not that I'd do that of course. Ahem...

Even "R spec" road rubber has caused me issues. These days I just ask guys to fit cheap road rubber - the harder the better. That works a treat!

yes tires got very soft. i could feel drivers rear wrinkling. i don't think the rollers got all messy, but i don't have any street tires have'nt street driven car in like 2 years. tires were spinng on rim too. I screwed them in now.

if the tires turned on the rim, thats probably why you didn't tear them up so much.

probably making more power than you could load up on the rollers then... nice!!

I don't think pump gas was mentioned by "that guy".

Probably got valve float which caused the boost spike!
