I see NISMO make a FPR but they don't say what the flow capability is. They don't even say why it's better than standard. But you'd hope it was! The good part is that it looks like it would bolt straight on. There's a bunch of eBay FPR's available too but most are generic types (of questionable qual...

Yeah, I'm with ya there. Suddenly all my "base maps" are useless if somebody fits a rising rate FPR. Big injectors are cheaper these days so there's usually little reason to use them.

Sounds fair. I take it these are not a "rising rate" reg. Just a normal reg like factory but they flow a bit more?

Thanks for your help. It's not my car - but I tuned it, so I'll investigate this for the guy.

Hey Pingu,

Are there any hi-flow FPR's around that will go straight on without any messing about?

Thanks

Hey Josh, I wouldn't use the knocklite to tune until you have verified its operation with another method anyway. You really shouldn't need to tune much at all. 1) First check mixtures. 2) Once they are right take a couple degrees timing out on the last 4 columns. 3)Get boost level where you want it....

Yeah, I suspect they have some sort of serial comms so the knocklite can talk to their other boxes.

Yeah, RNN14 is quite a different engine. Different cams, I believe 8:1 compression (?) etc. I never cease to be amazed at just how different the RNN14 SR20 is to other "mere mortal" SR's. They really put some effort into them. Don't try it on an S13! I've run my own car on 14 degrees at 14...

Aaaah. I don't have the wire colours here right now. I was thinking that the input wire was white. But I remember the yellow/blue wires that are outputs (which I snipped off).

Makes sense that you may be able to blow up something if an output gets shorted somehow.

Seems weird. You'd think they'd have that input well protected. Have you cycled power on it or have you hard-wired it?

I'll have a play with mine over Xmas and see what I can find out.

Yeah, true. There are plenty of FETs around that would do the job. The other way would be to just wire in a big power resistor to drop some voltage. It goes against the grain though! Probably the easiest solution would be to just use a brass tee in the delivery line so he could bypass some of the pr...

The problem with fuel pumps is usually getting enough voltage to them to get the full flow from them. That's why this "too much fuel pressure" problem is such a weird one for me. Those Walbro pumps use A LOT of current (10A) so make sure you have decent wire feeding it. If you wanna take a...

SR20 also has a form of fuel pump voltage control (they just switch a series load resistor in/out of circuit). I always believed that it was just to decrease fuel pump noise at low load. Once boost comes up the pump gets full voltage. Most (all) of the engine conversions I've seen run the pump at fu...

Hi Ed, Yeah, they certainly love timing. But in the midrange you gotta be really careful. 8.5:1. It's always tempting to add more timing but it will come back to bite you if you get carried away in the midrange. You can start tipping it in again up top no probs. They'll handle 20 degrees at 14psi up...

Ummm - yeah. Leave it alone. There's about 10 degrees extra in there already! Having said that, it's certainly worth checking. If your car comes on boost fast you may even need to remove some timing. Fortunately it's quite easy to hear knock in this area cos the engine isn't really making masses of ...
