Re: Setting Injection Multiplier

Yes, use the "N62" Z32 MAF. These are good and common. - make sure it's wired correctly (should see about 1.0 to 1.2V MAF voltage at idle) Then in NIStune: - turn IGN on (don't start engine) and connect to NIStune. - check that there are no fault codes present. Important! - sync tune from ...

Re: United Premium 100 Tuning

I'd be tuning around 11.5:1. Give yourself a good safety margin in the IGN maps (keep well clear of knock threshold) as it's a track car. It's also important to make sure your cooling system is up to the task for track cars. They'll go fine if coolant temps are kept at safe levels but some guys let ...

Re: S14 SR20DET holding on to closed loop??!?!?!

I love it hoow you glossed over this bit Matt: "One thing I am adding is a final injection multiplier adjustment to remove the need for modifying K" I think this is gonna be a big thing. To be able to leave K untouched should make tuning a lot easier. Particularly on combinations that woul...

Re: 5v senders

I don't know if extensive logging functionality is going to be possible/worth it. That's why we just went aftermarket on that one. All built into one small module - with data saved to CF card. GPS data + G sensors built in. High data rate. And with extremely good display software including track map...

Re: 5v senders

Hey Mario - that's some serious fibreglass work!!!! :) That was another good thing about the logging on my mate's track car - we also had oil pressure (not shown) and I was able to get an idea of whether engine damage was likely from that. I plotted oil pressure against RPM and throttle position. He...

Re: 5v senders

It's nice to have G sensors. If you have lateral data you can count how many times you rolled to work out why your car looks like it does! ;)

Re: 5v senders

Having fuel pressure data available really is a good thing. Just thought I'd share an experience with a mate's car that we did once. I think I've told this story before but what the hell. It's a good illustration of why it's good to have sensors on everything! S14 SR20DET in a Datto 1600. Running NI...

Re: 5v senders

Thanks for that - good find! Looks like a decent quality sender for very reasonable money. Monitoring fuel pressure can be expensive on EFI engines so this is just the ticket. Once you have a fuel pressure reading its easy to keep an eye on the health of your fuel pump. And do something about it bef...

Re: S14 SR20 starting tuning after 550ccs, basic questions

No worries. Glad to be of assistance. Just drop me a line at home pl <at> plmsdevelopments.com if you need an example tune. If I have something suitable then I'll try to help. I mainly do SR stuff so I have some for them. Got a few decent RB tunes but not a lot. Careful with Z32 AFM's - lots of Chin...

Re: S14 SR20 starting tuning after 550ccs, basic questions

Never seen it happen when changing AFM. Injectors are usually fine - if you've tuned for 550's then fitting 740's is usually pretty straightforward. Often no changes to fuel/IGN maps. If it was tuned properly to start with then to change injectors is often little more than: - Use Injector resize dia...

Re: S14 SR20 starting tuning after 550ccs, basic questions

Yeah you definitely wanna be doing AFM and injectors at the same time otherwise you're doubling your tuning effort. But if you're just starting out then it's all good practice!

Re: S14 SR20 starting tuning after 550ccs, basic questions

Just had a look at about 6 different S14/Z32/550 tunes I've done recently and K constant varies between 32,000 and 36,000. I use 34,000 for the starting point in my S14/Z32/550 base tune. If you had to adjust K outside of this range I'd be looking for a problem. Check fuel pressure first. Values in ...

Re: E85 tuning - how IGN timing affects boost

Thanks Stu, That makes good sense. We're gonna have to do some playing with cams timing. Partly because he took it to the track and isn't terribly happy with the torque spread - it's turned into a bit of a monster that's a bit flat in the midrange and pulls so hard up top that it wants to go off the...

Re: E85 tuning - how IGN timing affects boost

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll definitely be trying more timing next tune. It's breaking the "only add enough timing to get to peak torque" rule but I'll do it all the same. One other problem was that the car had semi-sticky track rubber fitted - which I think was affecting our measurem...
