backfiring....

hey guys.....I had my first decent play with nistune today.... its a CA18 with a T28, 550cc inj, and Z32 MAF. were running 45psi fuel pressure. we only had a bit of a play....but we got it to run pretty close to 14.7 at idle....but it was still a bit rich up top, but we'll play with that more later....

so your saying.....if were tuning a CA18 on the dyno.....we have to swap between maps, and change both at the same time? that doesnt sound like it'd work all that well when using map trace and + - keys. can you link the 2 maps within your software? ie....make it so it only shows one map....and when ...

Id say if you already have your AFR pretty good, then the cams arent gonna make a lot of difference.
you should really be asking about how you can play with the timing maps to take advantage of your new cams 8)

the guy that owns it doesnt know much about tuning at all, hes a machinist tho, so was easy to make the SC kit.
I didnt do the tuning, I just showed the guy at the dyno shop how to work ROMEditor.

heres a pic
note that the MAF was too close to the S/C where pictured, we had to move it into the wheel gaurd space to get the reading unaffected by the charger.

Weve just done this to my mates Datsun 1200 coupe. Supercharged CA18DET.....he used the DET pistons, and same supercharger, at 8psi, and made 203HP at the wheels. we tuned it with RomEditor and an emulator....lol, I have Nistune now, but didnt back then. so you should be able to make 200HP easy with...

I have one of these ROMs, and you can put 64point VQ maps into them no problem.

but from the sounds of in here, there may not be any point to it, if the code isnt looking at it anyway :(

are you talking about my board?
if so, then yeah, go ahead.
I didnt make that ROM, after reading this thread, I am doubtful that the ROM I have loaded is any use over the factory 52point VQ

very interesting! We had an awesome idea at the time, of running it on 2 seperate CA18 ECU's then maybe having it so that you could switch one ECU off, and that would stop fuel and spark to 4cyl....so effectively having a V8 that you can turn 4cyl off at your leisure. 8) . then I went home and thoug...

might just be easier to use a emulator and live edit then?
theres no way to run a V8 off 1 or 2 4cyl ECUs is there?
since the spark timing wouldnt line up?

VH41DE nistune?

would it be easy to modify a version of nistune hardware to run in a VH41DE ECU?
the early ECUs use the same EPROM style as CA18s, but the later ones were similar to SR20s
