Help me troubleshoot bucking/stalling (Nistune log included)

Here's the deal, I'm very sorry this is long but I want to give the total story. I have two VE30DE 5 speed manual Maximas, a 1993 turbo with Nistune, and the other bone stock N/A 1992 model. A few years back I parked my totally perfectly running N/A Maxima to overhaul it (new steering rack, all new ...

Do I need to free air calibrate if battery gets unplugged?

I found a few boost leaks in my intercooler piping so I basically have re-fabricated all of the piping over the past couple of weeks. I've had the car sitting on jack stands with the battery removed and the battery has been sitting in my garage on the trickle charger. All I can find about calibratio...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

You're right - once you've fitted a resistor the ECU should never jump to knock maps. PL Well, what should I check/do at this point? Is it somewhat inconsequential that the car would bounce between the main and knock map at idle? I'm not necessarily sure if it would bounce between the two maps at W...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

Alright, well I'm pretty frustrated. I can't access the knock sensor directly because it's totally inaccessible and a total PITA job to do, but it does have the sub-harness like I said above, so I have to test it at the sub harness juncture at the water pipe. Saturday morning I tested the knock sens...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

I will do some testing on that with my multimeter tomorrow, but again I can't imagine it being bad as it's a brand new OEM part. Now, after I put the resistor in there I was watching the maps while it was sitting there idling, and even with the resistor and just sitting there idling the car would fl...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

I feel like a total moron but I am still not clear on this, I appreciate you and PL's patience to help me through this. Okay, I was adjusting my injection multiplier to get my idle/low load AFR's in good shape. I then "burned" that to the ECU and shut the car off to go eat, when closing Ni...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

Thanks, I do have the ROM pack downloaded already. Each time I get into Nistune to make changes do I need to "re-sync" from the ECU first? So - at this point, since the car starts up and runs okay, should my plan now be to adjust the fuel map to get desired AFR's? I assume the K constant i...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

I did the injector and MAF resize the first day and I've started up the car a few times now, and haven't once "burned" anything into the ECU. However it appears the MAF resize stuck nonetheless. I've even unplugged the ECU today and have been in/out of Nistune numerous times and it still s...

Re: Would Nistune for any reason affect a/c operation?

Well this is strange. I just put the Nistune ECU back in and the AC works now. Go figure.

Re: Would Nistune for any reason affect a/c operation?

This morning before work I decided to try an extra stock ECU I have for it. I swapped it in but wasn't sure if the car would start/run, but it started right up. I turned the AC on and the compressor engaged right away and started to cool down immediately. Just to make sure I walked around to the eng...

Re: Would Nistune for any reason affect a/c operation?

I checked tonight and the 'ac relay' indicator never would light up in the consult view when I turned the a/c on. I assume it should turn red as the fuel pump relay etc does when active? Do these indicators light up to reflect the ECU is sending power to that relay? Meaning if the indicator does not...

Would Nistune for any reason affect a/c operation?

I finally got my car together and started it up and was letting it idle in the driveway last night while poking around in Nistune. I quickly realized my air conditioner isn't working. The a/c button lights up on the dash, and the idle gets raised a bit just as it should but the compressor never actu...

Re: Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

Hi James What happens is when you install the ROM pack, after connecting to the ECU it will match your ECU part number against that in the ROM pack automatically. So when you save the ROM file it has the original ROM pack image plus the maps downlaoded from your ECU in it You sync from the ECU (dow...

Plan of action for first start/tune attempt?

I have read all the documentation and done some web-searches, but I'm a bit unsure of what my process should be in attempting my first start-up. A little info on my car: '93 Maxima VE30DE, 5 speed manual, Garrett t3/t4, 575cc injectors, Z32 MAF, 255 lph Walbro. I also have an Innovate LC-1 installed...
