That idea about recording the signal from the knock sensor is very interesting. I might have to give that a go myself. I've now been caught out several times by the ECU jumping to knock maps with SR20's. So much so that I have completely lost all faith in the factory knock sensing. Twice the engines...

I agree. XP was a great OS. We didn't need Vista. Nobody wanted Vista. I'll avoid it as long as technically possible.

I suspect micro$oft will bring out their next OS and try to forget that Vista ever existed. Here's hoping...

Hey Chris, The ECU will be looking at pulses from the knock sensor rather than a DC level. I suspect the 3V level is only used for DTC generation. ie: it looks at the DC level and if it's around 3V then it assumes that the knock sensor is basically functional. I didn't take note of what values in th...

We've been doing map switching on our EPROM boards for S13 SR20 for awhile now. 1MB EPROM allows you to program 4 complete images. You can switch between the images while the car is running no problem. I'd stopped making the 4 map switching modules (although the EPROM boards by default will still ta...

Have you sent a debug log to Matt yet? That's the best way. He can see exactly what's happening then. Just enable debug log under Configuration and then use NIStune normally. It will create a log file.

Hi Robert, I've never seen a situation where the fuel/IGN maps won't respond if the Injection multiplier works. If injection multiplier works then normally everything is fine. The only time I've had any problem at all was when the car was jumping to the knock maps - which of course caused any change...

The guys at our local dyno shop are doing an SR with E85 today. I will be taking a keen interest!

Just found out something else - United Fuels here in Oz are going to be doing 100RON E10. Wooo hooo! Dunno what the availability will be though...

Have you moved the jumper on the motherboard so it's reading from the daughterboard instead of internal maps?

This is a very interesting subject. Unfortunately the knock strategies seem to vary from engine to engine so each must be asessed individually. I mainly play with SR's and the S13 DETs seem to be quite well behaved. I've always left knock sensing active. It's tempting to turn knock sensing on furthe...

I use a 10Mohm resistor to fake out the knock sensor on the bench (S13) and it gives around 3V. The ECU is happy with this value.

Yeah, I was amazed at the timing it took. I had one (very experienced) guy with his head under the bonnet and earmuffs on plus I had a new project of mine working - some quality earmuffs with little drivers in them, hooked to a microphone tucked in near the engine block. Both of us were sensing knoc...

Tuning experiences with E10 on turbo engines

Hey guys, Just got back from the dyno after doing my first tune using the 98 RON E10 fuel that is becoming more common now in South Australia. I gotta say I'm impressed. It's like some sort of wonder fuel! S13 SR20DET with Z32/550's with std cams. It was running a HKS GT2510 turbo. I just looked up ...
