Re: CA18DET - Base setup help

Hey Cams, Might be a boost leak, which I suspect is why Matt wants you to check your injection times. A change in AFR without a similar change in pulsewidth could cause that rich condition. How are the ratios through the rest of the rpm band? Also, turn on PM's on your NICO account, I can't reply to...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Hi Matt, I can confirm that my timing changes if that table is edited. You can see that the TP Recovery table and the Butterflies table change simultaneously. Correcting the TP Recover table definitely helped improve the timing, although I still am experiencing a small drop in timing over a smaller ...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Could you please? I've got a Volvo cruise control pump with an integrated solenoid and I'd love to find the tables that control the duty cycle for the CA18's solenoid output. A high degree of control over the butterfly opening is a goal I'd like to achieve. Or could you point me in the direction of ...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Oh I see what happened here. That table is nearly the same address that had been labeled as the butterfly control solenoid map! And that's the one I've been fiddling with trying to manipulate the changeover! #Add.map 1 ADD_MAP1,&H3990,32,1,32,1,Variable air close (JDM) I made that table by combi...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Well I'll be damned... Thanks for identifying that for me Matt! I looked back through the different iterations of that tune and found when the TP Load Recovery table changed, and it was right around the time I first noticed the issue. I was fiddling around with the butterfly maps at the time and mus...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Yes, I had identified that as the issue in an earlier post: Hi Matt, Can the knock sensor go "out of range" without throwing the DTC knock code? Consult isn't showing one. I haven't seen the ECU flip to the knock maps either... As to the knock report panel, I was an early adopter so the fi...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Cool! Hopefully this isn't too complicated a fix. The snow still hasn't fallen here so I'm hoping to take the car out for a few more rips before the white stuff flies.

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Ok, so I'm thiiiiiis close to pulling this ECU and going Haltech for managing my engine. I have COMPLETELY reworked my timing maps while tuning with my knock ears, ECU still pulls timing between roughly 57-70 TP, depending on gear. I did the detonation sensory bypass with a 470k Ohm resistor, ECU sh...

Re: CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

Update on my current progress: Built the knock ears and discovered my CAS was set to 15* BTDC after hearing some nasty crackling through the top end. I must have set it and marked it back in the day and never bothered to double check after all these years... Very embarrassing considering I'm ...

Re: CA18: Load Timing TP max high/low. What is?

Wow, thanks Matt! I am, however getting an invalid argument error in Nistune regarding the KNOCK_RETARD_LIMIT_MAIN,&H38E0,3,3,9,1 table. Now the tables won't load properly when using that .adr. Please advise. Regarding the functionality of Knock retard limits, are these the constants that define...

CA18: Load Timing TP max high/low. What is?

How does the ECU use these constants? As far as I can tell they're similar to the warmup timing constants that determine timing within a certain range of the map based on coolant temp, but what about the Load Timing TP max high and low? Which table do those correspond to?

Thanks!

Hi Matt, Can the knock sensor go "out of range" without throwing the DTC knock code? Consult isn't showing one. I haven't seen the ECU flip to the knock maps either... As to the knock report panel, I was an early adopter so the firmware running on my board is from 2008 or so which, I belie...

CA18DET: Batch fire changeover, ECU retards ignition?

So, in my datalogs, I've noticed that as my injection pulsewidths ramp up towards the magical 8ms mark (roughly where the ECU switches from sequential to batch fire) my timing will also retard several degrees relative to the maps. Then, after the ECU reduces the pulsewidths the timing will move back...

Re: How to tune for open BOV on MAF car

I've had good luck with a combination of high spring pressure and fast valve action speed when venting to atmosphere. I run the Synapse Diverter Valve with the spring at full preload in a Push configuration. The fuel mixture doesn't seem to be severely affected, I've noticed no post-shift bog and my...
