Re: Running/Timing Issues

Well I luckily had an old 84' Turbo ECU that I always thought was a bad 87. Turns out it's a good running ECU, it just does the common 84-85 thing of constantly running the fuel pump. Anyway I threw that in and started the car up. Timing is dead still, set the timing at 20* before TDC and it seems t...

Running/Timing Issues

Well I've been trying to actively get my Z going and I'm running into some issues. 1976 280Z with L28ET. Running an 86' Z31 Turbo ECU with my Nistune board. Last year I had the Z running pretty decent. I was playing with getting it to idle better, had nice steady timing, and timing via light matched...

Re: O2 Playback Question

Hm, this is really interesting that you can change the O2 feedback levels, so essentially with Nistune I can use a Turbo or Non-Turbo ECU with either type of O2 sensor? The way I currently have the larger 3-wire I believe it's called Zirconia sensor with I think it's an 18x1.5mm bung. I currently ha...

Re: O2 Playback Question

One more quick question I have about the ECU/O2 combination. The O2 sensors are supposed to be different between the the 86+ Z31 Turbos and Non-Turbos. I've heard that the O2 driver or whatever controls it/reads it in the ECU is separate and that you need the appropriate ECU to run the O2 sensor. I'...

Re: O2 Playback Question

I'll grab some logs tomorrow or sometime soon when I can to see if you guys can give me any extra info. I wish I could hook up my wideband right now, but I don't really have a full exhaust, so I don't have an extra bung to have both the narrow and wideband sensors hooked up at the same time. I almos...

O2 Playback Question

In the never ending battle to get my car running right, I've come across something I wanted to ask about, well two things actually. One is about the O2 sensor. I've currently switched to a 1988 Z31 Non-Turbo ECU for my L28ET so I could use the larger style Zirconia 1-wire sensor with my ECU. Althoug...

Re: MAF voltage in log playback issue

Ok, makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. So like you said I'll go by what I see on the log playback vs the consult gauge itself. I was at first thinking there was some big error between my two MAFs.

MAF voltage in log playback issue

Hey I was just messing around with my ECU and consult and I had a question here. I've been trying to determine the running issues with my L28ET, so I was doing logs with idling and then comparing them to the running logs in my Z31. At first I thought I found a big issue with maf voltatge showing 3.5...

Re: First time start issues?

Interesting, this is something I didn't know. I'll do that. So essentially if you want it to run like the 87 ECU you need to actually modify the 88 ROM image with the maps and values from the 87, but not actually try to burn a completely different ROM image? I'm going to give my ECU from my 87 Z31 a...

Re: First time start issues?

Still been messing around and I think the issue is related to something else. I've tried two different ECUs an 86 with Nistune and my 88 N/A with Nistune. I can get the car to run on both, but it has a heck of a time starting up. Anyway I don't have the USB port installed on the 88 at the moment so ...

First time start issues?

I'm not exactly how to title this one, but it was a quick question I had. My 76' 280Z has my old L28ET in it. I've seemed to fix the issues where the Laptop would lose consult connection while starting. Anyway upon the very first start-up a cold start I have trouble starting the car. On my 88' N/A Z...

Inhibitor Switch

Hey I had a question and I figured this would be the place to ask since you guys have had so much experience working with the Type 1 ECUs, but over the course of wiring up my L28ET into my 76' 280Z I came across the inhibitor switch issue. I see that the inhibitor switch for the clutch or the P/N sw...

Thanks! I'll check into that. At first I was worried maybe I had ruined my ECU, but like I said with my Z31 it worked fine.

Consult loses connection when starting

Here's something I haven't played around with much, but I'm going to get into it shortly. I swapped an L28ET into my 76' 280Z. I took the harness from my 280ZXT. Which had been converted to run the Z31 ECCS. I was running NIStune on the 280ZXT with no real issues before I did the swap. I have the mo...

I see what you're saying. You'd almost need to have it be a software side thing being able to constantly change the values on the ECU. Basically you'd have to always have the laptop with you anyway even if you did implement something like this. Makes sense. Probably still better off finding about yo...
