knocklite

any news on hooking the knocklite up to the a/d converter using the output ment for the turboxs computer? I dont really wanna take mine apart. Also the r32 ecu has 2 knock sensor inputs cylinders 1-3 and 4-6.

How do i hook it up to both?

I had the dyno booked last week for testing the autotune out... but I didn't get time to get the knocklite organised

after christmas its going to have to be. When Pete gets back. We have to make a make - 2 x female adaptors for the cigarette lighter power too so I had hook both the techedge and knocklite in together (laptop running from batteries in the meantime) as well as hook up the output.

All the software is done, just need final hookup and testing

I finally got a look at PLs knock lite several days ago... we have a problem. The unit comprises of a metal cylinder in which a circuit board is pushed in and solastic is put into the end so the board cannot be removed

So there is no way to (easily) get access to the light itself to feed as an A/D converter input

I've just emailed TurboXS for information about communicating with this unit using the serial connection... hoping for some sort of guidance

Looks like just a simple serial converter as I suspected. Can use the DLP232 prebuilt board and connect directly to the pins of this. I have one of those here to test with

We just need the protocol if they can give us that. We can plug it up and sniff out the protocol if it doesnt require a startup sequence and just spews out data

I dont know if you could hook it into both sensors... that would be a question for them. You might find need one per sensor

It would halve the ressitance having them in parallel and then you would have two sources of 'noise' which it is trying to read at the same time and work out if it is knock and may confiuse it

I am really really interested in this topic :)

My 2cts: if knocklite can't be easily disassembled, you can just make up a "cap" to cover the light with an LDR sensor/receptor led/diode... you will loose the visual warning but it would be OK for tests

problem is the sampling rate of the dlp may not pick up the flash (knock) when it occurs. found this when trying to hook into the Nissan ECU knock sensor board output lines
