Sanity check: Hard to start (AFM/800cc/E85) and it's winter

Post by djstatic »

Ok so my car has been hard to start since installing NT and a Z32 AFM. Since then I've increased the injectors (800cc) and converted to E85. No surprises it's still hard to start, needed a few key turns, light throttle etc.

Today I bumped Crank Enrich values up by 2. The car almost started with a key turn so I added another 2 and it started almost immediately (temp was 10c at the time):

I also modified these tables:

Can someone let me know if I've done the right thing. Car seemed fine on the drive to work (although it would have been warmer than usual seeing as I was messing around with the PC etc.)

I have a permanent wideband Lambda sensor hooked up, but I'm a n00b re: tuning and I don't know what I'm looking for lol.

all good, dont be scared with the cold crank enrich its the key to perfect cold start on e85 all the time.

Have you got it to work better?
I am having cold start problems with my ca18det with e85 and 800cc injectors and z32 maf.
I also have ignition problems when cold wich makes it even worse. Undrivable.
I can make a new thread with my problem but I thought I could ask you first.

Yeah, it worked. Had to add a little more to the crank enrich.

Good luck

Similarly you will need to bump up your warm start enrich tables since E85 will need more fuel during warmup

May be using the warm timing tables. You can disable those for S13 CA18DET by adjusting the warmup timing min/max temps to effectively disable the table

Thanks! good tip. I saw it now in expert mode.

During warmup it retards the ignition from 15 to 5 degrees when I give it some gas, and when it gets over 3500-ish rpm it stops doing that and runs much better.

Does enrich warm/cold crank have anything to do with cranking or is it simply the warmup enrich tables? why two tables?

One is used cranking below 15 degC and the other one above 15 degC. Generally I make them the same values. In the feature pack firmware updates I only have the one table

This is what I came up with, and it works for me down to 20 degC. (summer in sweden now)

My car is bogging down when cold also.

I have set "Warm up timing temp min" and "warm up timing temp max" to 30.

Is that ok? or should they be set to 205?

My engine runs better with them disabled. Min set to 205. Max doesn't matter i think.

My car hasn't ran right since 2010 while it was cold... Until today. Thanks!
