Drop-out issues with Type 1 - Causes and fixes..

Hi All. I've been heavily decompiling a VLT computer lately and identified a few causes and fixes.

If there are ineffective earths on the vehicle you may run into troubles. Check the EFI wiring to engine and engine to chassis.

Induced noise can cause frequent drop outs (RF interference). If NisTune communicates OK when the car is not running but fails when started, it is 99.96% of your problem.
This can be caused by many things, such as
1. Worn alternators
2. Bad batteries
3. Faulty spark plugs/leads/coil
4. Cheap and nasty USB cables can be a real problem
5. WIRELESS MICE AND KEYBOARDS !!!!!! (as I have found out this evening while chasing a very random problem on my test bed)

How-to-rectify your dropouts.
The solution is to install a Ferrite RF supressor onto the USB cable @ the PC end. One normally works, but some problematic installations may need one on each end of the USB cable.
DSE P/N R5120 (about $2)

These simple checks and fixes work in every case I have come across.

Thanks for the updates. I've tried to cover the battery and grounding issues, but perhaps alternators etc are also things to add

Wondering if we can get those ferrite cores good price in bulk? I see some electronic devices have them on the USB cables when you purchase them

I'm sure that we could purchase them in bulk before DSE turns fully into another Hervey Norman. Perhaps Jaycar or Altronics could be an alternative

"decompiling" does this mean some new addresses are being discovered?
