1600cc Injector questions

Post by MadMike »

I have seen some of you are running 1600cc injectors, I have a few questions after searching.

The injectors are Ford White Tops Bosch (P/N 0 280 150 846) 1600cc injectors. The issue I am having is that I have a High Impedance 89 Z31 (type-1 Nistune) ECU. The resistance on the injector coils is about 4.5 Ohms, so between low and high impedance.

What size resistors I use to keep from frying the driver?
Should I buy a Peak Hold box?

I know that these are slow and huge so idle is going to be a pain, but I would like to get these up and running with my VG33 build. Lastly as e-85 is non existant in my area I will be running 93 octane.

I believe should be 10watt 10ohm. But I am not 100% sure.

That is the standard for most high to low. Injector is in between the two.

8 ohm would be more suitable if the 10 ohm value was based on a 3.5 ohm injector.

10ohm=0.9655A leaning towards the low side if the battery is charging.

Good info by Jason for Z31 ECUs/resistors here:

Resistors 10 ohm

Thanks, Matt
Jason's page has been a great resource over the years, I was just lightly confused what to do with these abnormal injectors. Especially after all the reports of people having difficulty getting these to idle properly.

I was wondering if a peak hold driver, would be a better choice. Lastly as I have a few low impedance ECUs can I canabalize the Low z driver off another board? Is it an eprom or a whole circuit? Wishful/delusional thinking?

Thanks

If you are not running E85 I would wonder why you are going so large with the injectors. Basically you need to size up the injectors for the application required. Since you are talking 6 cylinder and not E85 then these would be over double the required amount and with the headache of trying to get some type of decent idle

I know with my R34 thats doing 300rwkw and only requiring 480CC (which is just over the required sizing for that power level)

I bought the injectors while I was in California for next to nothing, I never had put the thought into E85, so I was a little bummed to find that we only had 1 station in the state that used E85.

We now have 4, so growing but slowly. I may get a tank and try to run it, There is a station just about 15 minutes outside my commute.
