MAtt are you hard coding the app now to look for a USB consult cable? if so, how can i chnage it to only use the com port/serial cable?

what happens is that when connecting to consult, if the standard consult cable cannot be found then it looks for a Type 1 consult cable as a backup
So if the Type 1 drivers aren't installed then it raises the error.
Not a problem I would see here on the bench since I have those drivers installed, but in your case definitely confusing.

That was the prompt. I've hidden that now so it wont appear when trying to see if a Type 1 is connectedNIStune cannot find the correct USB drivers. Please reinstall drivers

We cannot obtain a handle to the serial port to access the device. To be honest I'm not sure why its doing this but the standard MFC serial calls are failing. Maybe something else (another program that you were using) still has access to the handle (eg ECU talk)
Have you tried forcing the COM port to COM1? Then reboot the machine, then reattempt the connection to COM1? Dont run any other software before doing this. I want to see if it can then get a handle to the serial port
What consult cable are you using also?
You should not need to change any of the settings inside device manager

i am using the Blatz consult serial cable, hooked to a Aten serial to usb converter...ive tried forcing 1-9 rebooting with all, the light on the converter NEVER lights up when nistune tries to connect (& it used to with an older build (about 2-3 months ago) but ECU talk gets it to light up & works fine (along with calumsalt & another reader app)

ok i think i determined the issue, its the driver im using....i pulled out ALL the existing drivers i had for the converter, & loaded win2000 ones, & it started working, but my pc would bluescreen,....
im going to try to rip the 2000 ones out & try a fresh install with the windows 7 driver....
i will report back with my findings

So I am going to retry the original USB port where I had problems and chase it from there
Windows installs a new set of drivers for each USB port you use. It could mean in this case that the drivers are not functionling properly on a particular USB port (however displays/works fine inside device manager)
The good news is that it gives me a port to work from and run in the debugger to see what is going on (no lights on comms etc). I have a lead to work from anyway which is good

yeah i still cant get it to connect.
the windows 2000 driver seems to work best, but then the system blue screens on me out of nowhere....i loaded the win 7 drivers, but it doesnt want to connect, ECU talk connects fine tho (the light on the converter lights up & all)
