Matt... since im Having Trouble connecting my Wideband to Nistune using The serial, would it be possible to buy this AD Converter and use the 0-5V output from the wideband (The wire not being used) to connect to Nistune?

If so... Im going to go ahead and purchase one :) Since I dont feel like Messing with it...

that will work. but you will need to now make up a lookup table for voltage to AFRs unless you can get that info from AEM

you can get the AD converters from
8 channel USB A/D converter

Ok here is what I got from the prosport gauges rep for there gauges:
Prosport Gauges
Sender Voltage output

Boost sender:
14.5 vac = 0V
0 = 1V
14.5 Boost=2V
29 Boost =3V

Premium Oil Press. Sender:
14.5 psi=.5v
29 psi=1V
43.5psi=1.5
58psi = 2.0V
72.5psi=2.5v
87 psi =3v
101.5psi=3.5v
116psi = 4v
130.5 = 4.5v
145 = 5.0

Oil/Water Temp.
104F = 925 oHms
302F = 32 oHms

EGT Probe:
800F - 17.523MV
1200F - 26.975MV
1600F - 36.166MV
2000F - 44.856MV

Performance Series Oil Pressure:
3-160 ohms
0-10 Bar

Now how do I convert the ohms reading to something that NIStune can use?

Those guages are just variable resistance. You need a device which can output a voltage

The EGT probe is in millivolts and requires a special A/D converter to measure voltage that small. I know some TechEdge units have thermocouple inputs.

I dont know about other wideband units... but it must be thermocouple input. There are no cheap A/D converters which do this. I've looked. Cheapest was about $200 last time i looked

hello, long time listener,first time caller.

Can this unit show MAP pressures in Nistune against TP and RPM?

Yes it can. Your MAP sensor will output a voltage which can be connected to one of the supported widebands or DLP AD converter

This can then be used as an auxillary input to NIStune and displayed on the TP/RPM trace window (Operations - Wideband Input Tracer)

So if I understand correctly I can hook "any" wideband 0-5 volt signal to the AD convertor but I'd have to make a lookup table for the right voltage / AFR values ?

And I assume other analog inputs will require the same trick?

I am thinking of running a PLX M series wideband an EGT gauge, these modules both have analog 0-5 V outputs, and are verry affordble.
Can this be done by using the AD convertor and a custom lookup table.

More info about how to make such a table is welcome :)

Thanks guys :)

That is correct.

Have a look in the software manual in the 'Documentation' page on our site for details on the lookup tables

For the DLP Converter, they live under

C:\Program Files\NIStune\Wideband\DLPADConverter

Just edit the CSV file to map voltage against value and it will display in nistune

thermocouple interface...

Post by maglito »

Is it possible to run an innovate LC-1 and with their thermocouple interface here:

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/tc_4.php

Can Nistune read the thermocouple readings off of the serial bus?

Also, is it possible to run a DLP converter AND one of the supported widebands?

Thanks

NIStune should be able to report any of the Innovate inputs, including thermocouple inputs.

They just use lookup tables to convert 0-1023 (10 bit value) value to a number which gets displayed

As long as you have the lookup table, you are fine. Same applies for connecting wideband units into the DLP A/D converter (assuming output is 0-5 volt compatible)

I thought that some people may be interested enough (like I was) to learn more about these, so here's the pdf file put out by DLS: http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/dlp-io8-ds-v15.pdf

I think it would be pretty good to have them set up as:
1. AFR
2. Boost/Vac (0-5V)
3. Inlet Temp (using their additional plug-in, -55 to 125'C )
4. Exhaust Temp (not sure which particular EGT would be best, but as long as it's 0-5V output)
5. Oil Pressure
6. Water temp
7. Anything else

i really like these units. they are relatively cheap (well postage to Australia isnt) and they have lots of inputs and can connect to just about any wideband unit and have a high sample rate (115200bps compared to most 38400/9600bps)
